How to Work with a Certified
Positive Peer Coach

Finding Your Positive Peer Coach

Positivity Playground members can work with coaches from any of our member schools for as many sessions as you agree on together. Our coaches specialize in 30-minute laser coaching sessions, but you can book longer conversations if you agree on that together.

Start by browsing our Certified Positive Peer Coach Directory where you can meet all of our coaches around the world. This list is growing continuously as we train and certify new cohorts of coaches twice a year.

Think about which coaches look like a good fit for your personality, coaching objectives, and time zone. Then complete the Coaching Request Form to get the ball rolling.

Understanding What Coaching Is (and Isn't)

Our Certified Positive Peer Coaches adhere to the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics.

  • ICF defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership. We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment."

  • Coaching is different from mentoring and counseling because coaches do not give advice, assign "homework," or "hold you accountable." However, coaches do help you decide where to find the advice you need (tapping into your own wisdom and network), create your own stretch experiments and observe what works, and design your own progress measures (and celebrate growth with you)!

  • Coaching is not therapy, and our coaches do not work with people on clinical issues such as depression, anxiety, or trauma. For these and similar issues, please seek professional support with a licensed clinical therapist. If you're not sure who to talk with, please reach out to a trusted friend or family member, your HR department, or a school counselor for a referral.

  • Our Positive Peer Coaching sessions are a confidential, safe space for you to think out loud, dream big, reflect and grow, create solutions to challenges, design meaningful change, build confidence through applying your strengths, and be encouraged by the signs of progress you and your coach observe along the way.

Choosing the Coaching Support You'd Like

Here are some ways our coaches can support you in a session...

  • Strategizing: Exploring pathways and techniques that will help you achieve a goal

  • Solutioning: Creating ways to overcome barriers and obstacles in your path

  • Sounding Board: Helping you clarify priorities, plans, or ideas that you’re working on

  • Self-Discovery: Exploring patterns in your thinking and behavior to help you shift outcomes

  • Support: Encouragement through exploring evidence of how your strengths and positive actions are serving you well

Identifying Your Coaching Focus Area

At the start of each session, your coach will ask what you'd like to focus on in your time together.

Here are some examples of the kinds of things people work on in coaching...

  • Developing self-care habits and routines

  • Thinking through a decision

  • Planning positive actions to reach goals

  • Coping with stress, change, or challenges

  • Planning for success with a project

  • Thinking more positively about a situation

  • Preparing for a difficult conversation

  • Building skills and confidence in a particular area

  • Collaborating effectively with others

  • …and many more!
